Advertise in coffs harbour A photograph $20 20 minutes to see if we are the right fit Finding the counsellor that feels right for you is very important It is a valuable endeavour to find the right person 160 supported rate 180 base rate 200 support others sliding scale contact me if you need a more supportive rate With me you will find a safe place, a level of calm, a mindful approach, and gentleness.
I have a background in mental health nursing and lived experience of adhd, being on the spectrum, and ptsd. I partially completed a naturopathy course and have a good understanding of how diet and herbs can support mental health.
My approach to counselling involves us working together to promote your wellbeing. Different things work for different people, and we will find what works for you. My focus is on supporting you and promoting your authority. Knowone knows you better than you know yourself.
I take an wholistic approach, where the whole of the person and the whole of their life is considered. Some of the elements of creating health that we can look at bringing into your life, depending on your preferences, include knowing what you are feeling and managing or tending to those feelings, diet/nutrition, herbs, physical activity, social connection, what you find nourishing, connection with nature etc. A focus on self care and bringing elements into my life that are supportive is something that has helped me.
We can take an approach to your situation without pathologising or dramatising the very normal human experience. Sometimes (and quite normally) it (the human experience) is hard.
Often we have an aversion to the experiences that don't easily foster joy and peace, the challenging times, the hard times, we might even think they shouldn't exist, we might think they are wrong, that there is something wrong that we have done something wrong that they shouldn't be happening!!!!
However, hard times are pretty common/pretty normal and may go on for longer than we might like.
This noticing transfers to our day to day and helps us disentangle from thoughts and feelings Learning the body scan is a beautiful way to focus our attention when trying to get to sleep with a busy head full of busy thoughts.
Mindfulness and meditation can be helpful during hard times as the practices like body scans and breathing meditations or walking meditation are all about noticing, just noticing and being aware of sensations, thoughts, feelings. In practicing these practices we develop this muscle of noticing.
In my experience with meditation and mindfulness where we are noticing just noticing (what level of focus like what intensity of attention a daydreamy attention a softened attention an attention that puts the focus out on the edges can I create a bubble a cocoon with my attention do we daydream because the situation is irritating to the nervy system because we are sensitive to the harsh lights of this world the stuffy air inside the grating noises give me soft lights the sound of angels singing beautiful nourishing foods creative artistic nurturing time softly gently sooth give me beautiful bellingen where I stay where my achievement is I didn’t leave town for 20yrs except to travel to the other home place tibet Nepal Thailand bali temples culture kindness Japan Vietnam ??? I offer counselling with a focus on you: me listening, allowing you to explore and find your answers. I have lived experience with the impact of burnout (what some describe as trauma, ptsd), autism/adhd, and finding/exploring what is needed, what worked/works for me. My experience involved the power of mindfulness, meditation, self care, tuning into the body, herbs, antidepressant medication, exercise, being in nature, massage, acupuncture, chinese medicine, food/nutrition, the healing power of poetry, internal family systems, connecting with grace and harmony, finding the positive, tending to feelings, turning towards and embracing feelings and sensations in the body, affirmations, connecting with that something else, that something bigger than me (be it the universe, God, or as I sometimes call it bob). This is what works for me. You can find and know what works for you, what you need. We all have wisdom and can be the genius in our own life. Prior to counselling I have previously worked as a mental health nurse. From an academic perspective I have studied the bachelor nursing, partial completion of bachelor psychology, masters mental health nursing 3 of the 4 required subjects and now completing the graduate certificate of counselling. I also have partial completion of naturopathy course. I have a very strong understanding of nutrition both from an academic perspective and lived experience with practice in my own life and how our diet supports not just our physical health but our "mental" health. I have a strong understanding of the use of herbs as support in challenging times again from an academic and lived experience perspective. I have a strong meditation/mindfulness practice.
